Solebury is an unincorporated community in Pennsylvania’s SoleburyTownship, which is located northeast of Philadelphia on the border of New Jersey. The township had a population of 8,552 in 2020. According to the Solebury Township Historical Society, the area was once inhabited by the Lenni-Lenape tribe of the Algonquian Indians, known as the “Original People.” In 1700 the area was discovered and settled by English Quakers, and was incorporated two years later. One of the township’s historic landmarks, the Delaware Canal (part of which is pictured above), was built in 1832 as part of a bigger system of canals that were intended to carry the natural resources or the area, such as coal, to cities on the eastern coast. The canal, which is 60 miles long, is the only continuously intact canal of the 19^th century canal-building era.

Other historic landmarks that live at least partly in Solebury Township are Washington Crossing, Honey Hollow Watershed, and the George Nakashima Woodworking Complex. In addition to historic landmarks, other interesting things to do in Solebury include the Manoff Market Gardens, where you can pick your own fruit, buy products that are made from the fruit, and enjoy hard cider made from the farm’s apples at their “Cidery.”
